I actualy got into trading music electronically through mp3's... it wasn't long before I was willing to wait the extra dozens of hours my 56k modem would take to download shn files.

mp3's are just fine as samples of the music, like that one bite of cheesecake on a toothpick you might get at the food store. But if you really want to satisfy your hunger for high quality, even if you are on a slow connection, download the .shn files... or flac files. maybe do what I did, download shows in tandem with someone else, and then the 2 of you mail a copy of 'your' show to each other. Get several folk together and you can go pretty fast.

And yes, BLeblanc is right, the mkw/ACT mp3 encoder is pretty bad compared to what's now available... but then it wasn't meant to be an mp3 tool, really.
